Christopher Dede

Chris
Dede�s fundamental interest is the expanded human capabilities for
knowledge creation, sharing, and mastery that emerging technologies
enable. His teaching models the use of information technology to
distribute and orchestrate learning across space, time, and multiple
interactive media. His research spans technology forecasting and
assessment, currently conducting funded studies to develop and assess
learning environments based on immersive virtual reality technology
and multi-user virtual environments. Mr. Dede is also active in policy
initiatives, including a recent role as Senior Program Director at the
National Science Foundation�s Directorate for Education and Human
Resources. His work with state decision-makers encompasses activities
with the Education Commission of the States, the Council of Chief
State School Officers, and the National Governors Association. Mr.
Dede�s involvement with education reform includes strategic planning
for technology-based innovation with the Milwaukee and Cleveland
public schools. |

Jerry Mechling

Jerry Mechling is the Director of Strategic
Computing and Telecommunications in the Public Sector, a research
program of Harvard University�s John F. Kennedy School of
Government. He conducts sessions for the Kennedy School�s executive
education programs in addition to teaching STM-480: Managing in the
Information Age for the graduate program. Dr. Mechling�s
research and consulting highlights the impacts of computer-based
technologies on organizational behavior and strategy.
Formerly, Dr. Mechling served as an Aide to the
Mayor and Assistant Administrator of the Environmental Protection
Administration for Mayor John V. Lindsay of New York City, and as
Director of the Office of Management and Budget for Mayor Kevin H.
White of Boston. He has consulted to numerous public and private
organizations including federal, state, local, and international
agencies and corporations such as AT&T, CBS, Cadbury-Schweppes,
IBM, and Northern Telecom.
Dr. Mechling also holds an A.B. in Physical Sciences
(mathematics and physics) from Harvard College and M.P.A. and Ph.D.
degrees in Economics and Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School
at Princeton.

Dr H. Cundiff

Dr. H. Lynn Cundiff is the sixth president of Salt Lake Community College. He was named to
the position in May 2000. Dr. Cundiff earned his Ph.D. degree in Educational Leadership from
Southern Illinois University, Canbonville. Illinois. He received a Master of Arts in
Educational Administration from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri,
and a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Mathematics from William Jewell College in
Liberty, Missouri.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Cundiff served as President Floyd College in Rome,
Georgia for eight years. In addition to his position at Floyd College, Dr. Cundiff served as
Chancellor of the Alabama College System in Montgomery, Alabama; Vice President and Dean of
Instruction and Dean of Students at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas; Adult education
Coordinator at Jefferson Community College in DeSoto, Missouri, and as Athletic Director of
the DeSoto Public School System. He has also authored several scholarly publications,
presented a number of papers at national professional conferences and spoken at the Whitehouse
on June 20, 2000, regarding technology in education.
Dr. Cundiff currently serves on the boards of the Utah Information Technologies Association,
United Way, Utah Partners for Educational and Economic Development, Inc., the Economic
Development Corporation of Utah, and the Microsoft Advisory Board.

Dr.
Darcy W. Hardy is Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and
Director of the UT TeleCampus, the virtual university of The
University of Texas System that supports distance delivery of academic
programs from all UT component institutions. The UT TeleCampus
(www.telecampus.utsystem.edu)
provides students and faculty access to virtually all services
necessary for success when teaching and learning at a distance.
Dr. Hardy has been involved in distance education since 1989, and was a
founding member of the Texas Distance Learning Association. She is a
past president of that organization, and currently serves on the Board
of Directors. She is chair of the Distance Education Advisory Council
for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and is Vice
President for Membership and member of the Board of Directors for the
United States Distance Learning Association. In addition, Dr. Hardy is
the Curriculum Director and On-Site Host for the Institute for
Managing and Developing e-Learning (MDE), presented annually by the
Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications.
In 1998, Dr. Hardy received the UCEA Nofflet
Williams Up-and-Coming Leadership Award and the TxDLA Don Foshee
Leadership Award. Other honors include the 2000 UCEA Charles Wedemeyer
Publication Award as a co-author of Teaching
at a Distance: A Handbook for Instructors.

John Thomas Flynn

John Thomas Flynn is the Chief Executive
Officer of TechEd Strategies (TES). TES works with higher education
clients in a partnership providing information technology planning,
procurement and project management assistance, independent oversight,
and other strategic support. Prior to TES, he was Vice President for
Litton PRC where he was responsible for directing the strategic
development of this billion-dollar technology company�s public
sector business for state and local government. Mr. Flynn directed the
Department of Information Technology, a new, cabinet-level agency
reporting directly to Governor Pete Wilson. He was also
Massachusetts� first CIO under Governor Weld.

Burck Smith

As CEO of SMARTHINKING, Burck directs academic services, operations, the
design and implementation of the SMARTHINKING technology platform and
has joint responsibility for business development and strategic
planning.
Prior to co-founding SMARTHINKING in 1999, Burck was
an independent consultant and provided statistical, economic,
management and communications consulting services to for-profit and
non-profit educational organizations (www.burck.net).
Before launching Burck Consulting, Burck was Research Director at
Public Interest Breakthroughs (www.p-i-b.org), a non-profit consulting
organization that helps state and local governments plan and build
information systems for human services.
While with PIB, Burck authored a 1998 report on
state human service infrastructures on behalf of the National
Association of State Information Resource Executives (NASIRE).
He has a Masters Degree in Public
Policy from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government
and a BA from Williams College. Burke has traveled extensively and has
worked in Korea and Vietnam.
